Youth cricket development in Chiang Mai
Our club aims to promote youth cricket in the region by sponsoring the Lanna Juniors team in this season’s Chiang Mai Senior League. We also have a close association through several of our members with the Hilltribe Fund and will aim to support the programme through fundraising activities and promoting awareness of the programme’s successes via the cricketing networks of our members.
The Hilltribe Fund Cricket Sponsorship
The Hilltribe Fund works with under-privileged boys and girls trying to give them a better chance of success in life. The hostel is situated in Lamphun, about 25km from Chiang Mai.
The children are from three different hilltribes, Karen, Akha and Hmong, All their educational needs are looked after but the boys and girls are all talented cricketers.
The children practise almost every day with the older boys already training to be coaches. Their dedication is paying off as Lamphun now has successful boys and girls teams and the best players now have the chance to play for Thailand.
Lanna Juniors 2013/14
The Chiang Mai Schools Cricket Alliance provides cricket for children of all ages and abilities throughout Northern Thailand.
Great credit should go to all the coaches, helpers and to the children themselves who are showing great talent as young cricketers. Thanks should also go to the teams and players of the San Miguel Chiang Mai International Cricket Sixes for their generous support.
The youngest children start by playing softball cricket and the season always finishes with the staging of the Sixes Sawasdee Cup where all local schools gather together for an enjoyable day’s competition.
Junior hardball leagues are organized for the older children and senior boys and girls now play for junior teams against the men in the Chiang Mai Senior League. The best young players have already represented Thailand at junior and senior levels.
