won by 7 wickets

A somewhat different Chiang Mai XI turned out on Sunday with high hopes of turning around Saturday’s 40-over result in the T20 match—a more familiar format for most local cricketers.

Chiang Mai opener Naveed continued his form from the previous day scoring a brisk 30 and at 49/1 things were looking promising. Alas, Chanchai’s run out precipitated a dramatic collapse that featured a further two run outs and some fairly agricultural shotmaking. The innings ended at 75 all out with the last five wickets falling for three runs.

The Sri Lankan bowling and fielding was tidy but hardly dominating and the Chiang Mai boys could really only blame themselves for the poor showing. Captain Makki looked in good touch for 17, but no one was able to stay with him. Wickets were shared among the bowlers with Hasaranga returning the best figures of 3/11.

Without much to work with, two Lanna Juniors bowlers, Cher and Chanchai, performed admirably with the new ball. Chanchai finished with two well earned wickets in four tight overs, but inevitably the target was run down with plenty of time to spare. Eranda and Hasaranga contributed the bulk of the runs, hitting three sixes and three fours between them.

The Sri Lanka Navy team continued to play in good spirit, as they had done in the first game, and generously presented all of the Chiang Mai team members with caps. While the result was not ideal, it afforded the tourists a little extra time to explore our city and hopefully entice them back again next season.
