Thailand brought down to earth by Malaysia

Chanchai Pengkamta 21

Malaysia
won by 160 runs

Thailand’s men’s team had won their first match in the South East Asian Games 50-over competition but it was a very different against Malaysia who proved to be much stronger opposition. The hosts made 265 for 6 in their innings so Thailand needed to bat well to make a match of it It was good to see four former CMSCA junior cricketers take to the crease with some success as Bunchuai defended valiantly for more than 20 overs, Nikom hit through the covers strongly before holing out, Chanchai played some strokes last seen at the Chiang Mai Sixes before running himself out, and even veteran Tong showed he could still bat well, but it was not enough as Thailand were bowled out for 105. Malaysia won by 160 runs but all is not lost for Thailand as victory against Indonesia in their next match would give them a good chance of a medal. The Thai players will have learnt more in this defeat than they did in their victory over Myanmar.
