won by 7 runs

The first match of the new junior season had been rather one-sided as Lamphun beat CMSCA by 97 runs but the return fixture a week later was a much closer affair with the boys from Mae On and Brok Kroc Noi Schools showing great character in almost pulling off a surprise victory.

The boys CMSCA were particularly good with the ball and despite several dropped catches were able to restrict Lamphun to a total of 99 for 7 in their 25 overs. Beer top scored with an unbeaten 24 and Por made 19. Opening bowler Daeng was impressive as he bowled five overs for 12 runs and took the wicket of Champ while Min and Yod both claimed two wickets.

CMSCA had been bowled out for just 33 in their last match so the boys had decided to try a reversed batting order and the tactic looked to have worked to perfection as Hloo and An added 38 for the first wicket. An made the highest score of the day with 25 from 23 balls and Tee, Ang and Khat all made useful contributions.

At one point CMSCA had reached 69 for four but Por is developing well as an all-round cricketer and he returned the outstanding figures of 5 for 12 and Beer and Fluck also took two wickets as CMSCA’s last six wickets fell for 23 runs.

Lamphun had won by seven runs but the match was closely contested throughout and showed the benefit of playing junior matches as often as possible.
